March 24, accompanied by some City officials, a delegation headed by Hanscom Smith, Consul General of the U.S in Shanghai came to visit Zhejiang Wanli University.
Professor Qian Guoying, vice president of our university, extended warm welcome to the visiting guests and held friendly talks with them. She reported to the guests the founding and development of the university, especially its dedication to the reform of China’s higher education and the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), the first Sino-foreign university in China established by Wanli and the University of Nottingham.
Then Prof. Qian introduced to the guests the collaborative relationships built between Wanli University and more than ten American colleges and universities and the international programs designed to promote the communication among Chinese and American teachers. What’s more, she said, the international may help Wanli students to choose their favorite universities to finish their overseas study. Other similar programs such as international study programs, two plus two project, and summer camp also help to improve their language proficiency and broaden the students’ international vision. Prof. Qian hoped that the Consul General may create more opportunities for Wanli and American universities. Consul General Smith said that he wished more and more American students to come to China experiencing Chinese culture and communicated with Chinese students. He also asked Qian about the issues such as scholarship. Some student representatives who were going to join in Murray State University summer camp program and 2+2 program of SUNY Plattsburgh also attended the meeting and asked about relative issues including accommodation, driving license, travel conditions and Chinese restaurants.
At the end of the meeting, Consul General expressed his hope that Wanli students enjoy their study in the U.S and then Prof. Qian also wished these students would gain more opportunities from these study programs. After the meeting the delegation visited the blossoming and beautiful campus.
